In the dynamic world of commercial development, the consults are key stakeholders in the success of a project. Our partnership with JMA Architects has emerged as an inspiration of collaborative success that seamlessly blends aesthetic finesse with practical functionality.
We caught up with Greg Wilson, Senior Associate from JMA Architects to shed light on the depth of our collaboration and its profound impact on cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency for our clients.
Greg, we have worked on a number of projects together, are there any that stood out more than others for you?
LSR and JMA Architects have jointly tackled a lot of projects. Our collaboration extends beyond construction; it involves conceptualising designs during the pre-delivery stage, aligning them with client briefs, and assessing feasibility.
A notable project was the recent completion of an intricate pet food manufacturing plant for a private developer. The challenges were manifold—tight deadlines, restricted space to fit all the necessary equipment, and intricate health requirements. The synergy between the design and construction teams, coupled with effective client communication, resulted in an on-budget and on-time delivery (from planning to hander over in just 10 months).
Are there current trends in commercial and industrial architecture?
Industrial development has witnessed a surge during Covid which was caused by increased online purchasing and therefore demand for warehousing and distribution spaces. We have also seen a lot of small and medium-sized developers re-entering this market and everyone is extremely cost-conscious – so our aim is to ensure our design is buildable.
Compliance has also become a lot more stringent so the ‘industry norms’ are no longer cutting it therefore the stakeholders all need to be across the BCA and know the ins and out of the codes. LSR are all over this.
What role does technology play in commercial architecture?
Technology is pivotal in modern architecture and LSR’s use of Procore helps to centralise the project documentation and makes the process much more seamless.
What’s your approach to collaboration with LSR?
Collaboration is fundamental. LSR and JMA Architects prioritise relationships over transactions - it’s all about building rapport and strengthening connections.
Witnessing LSR’s remarkable growth is a testament to this collaborative ethos. We worked together on their first job and being part of their journey has been a genuine pleasure.
